You pulled your Human Design chart and discovered; you are a Generator. But what now, what does that even mean?

If you are a Generator or Manifesting Generator, it means your sacral center is defined (aka colored in on your chart). So your “energy type” is then that of a Generator or Manifesting Generator.

Your energy type is how you are meant to maneuver through life.

Your Strategy

Being a Generator, your strategy is “to respond.” This is the way you are “designed” to interact with the world around you.

I interpret “to respond” to meaning to be inspired, looking for signs from the universe, and acting according to your inner authority.

You can read more about the “to respond” strategy in this post + video.

Your Not-Self Theme

As a Generator or Manifesting Generator your “not self” theme is frustration. I like to think of the “not self” theme as your check engine light.

If you find yourself feeling frustrated, this is your sign to pause and examine what is causing this feeling of frustration.

For example, as Generators, we like to go step-by-step and dive into our work, so if you are always feeling rushed to deliver, this might cause that feeling of frustration, and you need to look for ways to migrate this in your day-to-day. Set better boundaries with clients, or extend your turn-around times. Give yourself the space you need to follow the process you want with your work.

Frustration can also mean you are hitting a plateau in your mastery, so again just pause and observe what where the frustration is coming from and why.

Note to MGs you are not necessarily motivated to do step-by-step.

You Signature Theme

Your signature theme (the flip side) of the “not self” theme is satisfaction.

Do you ever have those days that you feel so accomplished? Maybe you rocked your to-do list, or you completed a project? And at the end of the day, you feel tired, but also great because of all you got accomplished. Well, that is you living in your energy type!

But that doesn’t mean every day needs to be getting a ton done; it can just means you spent your time that day doing what made you feel good.

Next steps as a Generator

Generators (and MGs) are considered the “life” force of the world. Many books describe our type as magnetic. Our energy flows through us and helps to energize other energy types when we are doing what we love, and we feel inspired and energized in a particular action/topic/situation.

Think about when you are feeling on fire about a topic or when doing something, how have others around you responded? I know when I’m fired up on a topic, I’ve seen people lean in; they want to know more. That’s what we are meant to be the majority of the time.

Of course, you can’t be in that state all the time, but the more you can bring that magic and that feeling into your day-to-day, the more aligned with your strategy you will feel.

As you get started in your Human Design journey:

  • Look at your day-to-day and see what inspires you or energizes you?
  • What is consistently frustrating you in your day-to-day?
  • How do you minimize the frustrations and maximize more of what lights you up?

Also pay attention to what you are in the mood to work on or do. We don’t need to be doing the same things each day to be energized, sometimes it’s less about the what and more about the when.

For example, sometimes I am more motivated to clean the house and other times it’s a hard no. Experiment with asking yourself what you “feel” like doing, what you are in the mood to tackle.

Watch for when you have to push through too many tasks.

The more pushing through your day-to-day, the more burned out you will feel and the less energy you will have to get into that lite-up place. It’s essentially dimming your light as a Generator or MG the more energy you use to do those not “hell yes” things.

And to figure out the “hell yes” things, look to your inner-authority. You can read more about that in this post + video.

The great thing about Human Design is the insight and permission it gives you to make changes in your life.
